We did it!

Speaking of weird ships, I am reminded of the Troop Transport that was built out of concrete right at the end of WW II. Some troops refused to get onto it (I think there was two) even to go home after the war.

It did float however, and I believe one is still in harbor on the East Coast somewhere. God forbid what would have happened if someone shot a single shell at that thing.

This was less of a stupid idea, and more of just flat out being out of materials to build ships.

Keep in mind, that ships float because they are less dense than water. The formula is density is equal to mass divided by volume. Note the word volume. That's what net tonnage is a measure of. So, the construction material isn't really that important. While ships have a large mass due to the steel, they have an even larger volume.


I haven't done the subject justice, but I hope I have conveyed the idea that the materials are not as important as the dimensions.
