All - I just ask you all to bear one constraint in mind: a map can have only one port per hex, and a hex is 96nm across in the Pacific and Atlantic scenarios (and 48nm in the Med scenario). I can not include bases that are too close together, so we will have to do some filtering on any final list. Obviously, those that will make the cut will be the more important ones.

For the Med, Marseille and Toulon have already been suggested elsewhere, and I second that suggestion.

For the Atlantic, I suggest Antwerp, Rotterdam, and one port on side of the English Channel - Dover or Southhampton on the British side, Calais, Dunkerque or Cherbourg on the French side.

In the Pacific, there´s Midway, Marcus Island, Bougainville or Shortland, Port Arthur, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Saigon or Camranh Bay, a base on Formosa (Tainan?), Balikpapan and Palembang. Maybe it would be worthwhile having other bases in Japan as well - Osaka, Kure and Sapporo for example.

Also I noticed that several bases in the Pacific are not where they are supposed to be, so perhaps that can be fixed as well? Rabaul looks like it is about one hex east of its actual position, and from my maps Iwo Jima ought to be about halfway between Guam and Japan.
Then, I don´t know if that is possible, but it is not right for ships to go straight west from Kiel; they should have to go north through the Skagerrak.

This game is really anti-French,we saw here the work of perfidious Britons !! :D

In the Channel, add Cherbourg, Le Havre and Dunkerque at least..

Heh, let me defend Tony here, an aussie aint a pom, what's the difference, simple aussies didn't row the boats ashore in 1788. :D by the way yesterday was Australia Day.

I agree definitely need Milne Bay in the Pacific, and an est coast port in Britain or south or south east.

Tony hasn't included many french ports, because us aussies can't spell what's the name of that French Med port Mar say :D

Have already made my request - also Dakar & martinque for French interest in an atlantic scenario.

Haven'y played a med scenario yet but are Beruit (Fr) & haifa (GB) there ?

PS goodwood - is that the one near two-lon ? :D

IIRC the main (not on map) French Fleet ports were Dunkirk (sorry about english spelling) & Cherbourg and GB missing Plymouth/Portsmouth/Portland (if just one then Portsmouth)

On the pacific map we need the southern coast of Oz and the cities Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, and Perth. The west coast towns of Broome and Derby. And maybe a couple of resource towns in the west and Newcastle in the east.

Are new ports included in 1.04?
(I tried to build a France vs. Italy scenario in the Med -- and French Navy still has no ports on the mainland)

Cheers

HB - 1.0.4 does not include more ports. Very soon we will be putting out a schedule of what we are aiming for in 1.0.5, and in releases after that ;)

was really looking forward to downloading 1.04 today but this news has removed some of the shine.

Tony/Chris I know map editing is not core but as the previous poster pointed out to not have Toulon (or any other mainland port) as the home port for a French Med scenario is disappointing. :(

To Millsy, adding a port is not a simple matter of just plotting a geographic marker on the maps especially within a fully dynamic campaign engine - example, not scripted. The AI/2IC has to know what to do with the new bases which means the map being updated has to be calibrated for each new base added. Our top priority was the airstrike code, critical fixes, etc. for v1.04. We do have adding "French bases" on our future priority list so this topic has not been forgotten.

Thanks.

Let me put down a list of useful ports (in order of priority), in the hope we can see at least some of them soon:

Toulon hex 14/5 Indispensible (was the main base of the Marine Nationale in the Med);
Ajaccio hex 17/8 Important (to make Corsica something different from a spot on the map; interesting because it adds some spice to Italian control of the approaches to La Spezia and it makes control of Sardinia somewhat more uncertain).

Much less important, but I add them here for sake of completeness:
Sète hex 11/5 Add if you can (may be a double of Toulon/Marseille, especially if you plan a hypothetical evacuation of France scenario in 1940);
Marseille hex 13/5 (Historically it was the main port on the French coast of the Med, but it can be superseded by a beefed up Toulon).

In Tunisia, historically, the main French naval base was Bizerte (18/15) and not Tunis (18/16), but the difference is really slight.

Cheers

i agree with this - to not have a mainland french Med port make playing any Med based game with the french almost worthless.
