French Fleet slaughtered... names !

Just started a "Franch in Atlantic" custom campaign, and was shocked to see so much misspelled/anglicised ship names :eek: ! You need a French proofreader, so I step in ... I didn't reread everything, just the names of the ships chosen for my campaign, but here's a first "typo" list :

Richlieu -> Richelieu
Marshal Joffre -> Marechal Joffre
Le Filibuster -> Le Flibustier
La Moqueuese -> La Moqueuse
Vengeure -> Vengeur
Redoubtable -> Redoutable

Edit : also, the main Feench plane manufacter was Breguet (with a "G"), not Brequet.

Actually PDF, to be serious, I am more than happy to make whatever changes are necessary. If you could compile and attach a list of name changes needed, I will work these in when I can.

Funnily, the english/US term "fillibuster" indeed originates from the French "Flibustier", that is a generic pirate/corsair/buccanneer denomination. The Congressmen "pirates" the law discussion when fillibustering ...:p

PDF - Yep, you got me there. I was brought up with English English, spelling things like encyclopaedia. Aaargh! Somewhere in the foggy depths of my cranium, I knew that the US 'maneuver' was just too simple; there had to be some funny 'o's in there. And not knowing French, I didn't realise until I looked it up that it is indeed the Gauls who started it all with their manoeuvre of creating words that noone can spell properly.:p (Except for a few score million Frenchmen and women I guess)

This might be the right thread for a couple of small things I noticed.

First, the German heavy cruiser class in the Atlantic 1 scenario is called "Prinz Eugen class"... this should be "Admiral Hipper class".
The Japanese "Hiyo class" should be "Junyo class", I think, and the ship "Junyu" should be spelled "Junyo".
The Japanese escort "Skiknami" is probably supposed to be the "Shikinami", right?

In the ship builder, the Japanese Unryu class CVs are listed having 50-odd aircraft; any source I could find said they had 65.

Also, one of Kongo class ships is missing from the Pacific 1 scenario, as are both German CVs from the Atlantic 1 scenario.

Something else I noticed: The Japanese destroyer class "Minikaze" is, I think, "Minekaze".

And Jakarta was called Batavia back in WW2.

Lastly, Iwo Jima is too far south; it should be halfway between Guam and Tokyo Bay.


But with all that, I think I should also mention that didn´t notice any butchered German names, not even the city names which usually tend to get butchered in translation. Good job there!

Well there's some Quebequois too, and they even manage to not be verbally understood by French :D.

About French names, if you please send me some list of French vessels and a/c game names I can spell-check it.
