Just wondering....

During the course of a turn when my ships fire a salvo, how many salvos are actually being computed?

It cant be 1:1 becaue the ROF for primaries and secondaries have to be different.

So if for every BOOM I see on screen, how many potential BOOMS are we talking about?

If more than one, is it possible....theoretically, that durin gthe course of a turn I can fire one broadside of perhaps 8 guns and actaully receive MORE than 8 hits?

Unlikely, but wondering if thats taken in to account?

ROF is not a static number as it is adjusted within the mechanics based on range to target, sustainable ROF of the weapons, the ROF for targeting selected by the player, etc. What you are watching is the firepower on a 3 minute turn scale and whether or not damage was inflicted during that turn. If any damage was scored then you will see a hit otherwise you will see a miss or straddle.

Let me know if that clarifies your question. Thanks.

I guess, what I mean is that if I see two shells hit the enemy, that may or may not necessarily represent two shells....or five...or whatever.

Correct? So we dont actually see the toal number of hits in a literal sense, but merely an abstraction therof.

(Im sure the game counts individual hits, but we cant see that right?)

Correct. For example, if you had a Fletcher class DD with five 5" guns firing at full ROF at a target <4000 yards that scored hit it's target, it would be possible to score more than 5 hits in that 3 minute turn.

At that range those same guns could be firing around 240-300 shells in 3 minutes time.. which is why WCDB gives a report of any damage scored, miss, or straddling of the target. However, I am looking at plans for WC:NAW v2.0 to include a report of number of shells fired vs hits scored for a more detailed representation of gunfire per turn.
