Hi,
RIP to the gallant victors of the 1st and 2nd Battles of Narvik.
HMS Hunter was sunk during the 1st destroyer battle.

As always a first person account lends an air of authenticity that a dry historical account can't hope to match. It's interesting to see that he honored his pledge not to fight against the Germans. I would have imagined that he could have returned to the fight and recognize that the odds of being captured again and having his name on list would be slim. Of course we can't discount German efficiency when it comes to record keeping. Also I imagine that the RN may have felt that violating such a pledge could lead to retailiation against any other sailors captured.

Hi,
No, neither was I, although I believe some Merchant Navy personnel were paroled much later in the war.

Like Jon said, neither was I. I thought that was something from the old days of horse and musket warfare.
