I have 2 gigs of ram and have tried to set up SAS-WW2 to take advantage of the xtra ram as described in the manual, i.e. modifying the properties of the desktop icon. However, after changing the default values to Xms1024m" and "-Xmx2048m, the game will not start. Any ideas here?
Thanks
Mike

oldSpec - was there are a '-' before the first parameter, ie '-Xms1024m'?. Also makes ure you retain the space after 'java.exe' in the string.

Tony...Thanks for the info. I only replaced the numerical values 512 to 1024 and 1024 to 2048. Program will not start w/ changed values but no problems when I change back. Not a major issue here for me as the free memory seems to stay around 400 Mb during turn calculation with the stock memory settings. But I wanted to see if I got a performance boost w/ the higher settings.

OK, thanks Mike - bit strange tthat the changed figures stoppped the program working.
Can you try something intermediate - say 768 for the first figure (and leave the second unchanged?). I've been able to play around with these figs OK before. I'm interested to see what happens on your system

Tony...ok tried some other combinations using 768 for the first number. I started at 2048 for second number and worked down by multiples of 128. I got it to work w/ second number of 1408. So I am now running w/ the higher settings. FWIW, I'm running windows XP on an old Athlon 3000+ XP, 2 Gigs ram, and a vanilla Nvidia 6800 card w/ 128 Mb.

Good news Mike, thanks for letting me know. Possibly what was happening was that the Xmx setting was taking all of the available memory, and the OS rejected that attempt, so rejected the whole thing

tried at first the 1024/2048 setting but did the same, no start, until I changed to 768 and 1408. I didnt try diff settings, just plugged in 768/1408. Im running vista64 w 6 gig ram with nvidia 9800 gt and dual quad.

OK - so things are working now?

Tony- FYI, I am now running at 1024/1408 w/ no problems. Free memory shown during the turn has approx. doubled (400 Mb to 800+ Mb) but my old processor is showin' its age.

Mike - neverthless the greater memory should help as the game files get larger - which tends to happen as campaigns progress.
Cheers
