For those of you who aren't aware of Grandpa Pettibone. He is a character developed in the mid-1940's who wrote articles on aviation safety. He was termed, as the article states, " The Sage of Safety". The articles appear in Naval Aviation News which is published monthly. The accident narrations are excellent, as are the comments by Grandpa Pettibone as to the mistakes made. Some are tragic errors but they are meant to be instructive. The drawings are the best part. I've been reading these since the early '70's when I started working for the Navy.
Anyway, I am posting the link to the Grandpa Pettibone Home Page at Naval Historical Center. The back issues are now online and I hope you will all take time and read them. Again, while they are funny and well written, they are meant to be taken seriously by all in the Naval aviation community. Mistakes cost lives and money as we recently have learned in San Diego.
Enjoy them
I have also provided the home page to the online current versions of the Naval Aviation News with Grandpa Pettibone.
