This has happen on three different computers and I think three different version of the game. Everything works great but after playing for about an hour on any mission is crashes to desk top asking me if I want the debug. If I click on this the debug window goes away. Now for somewhat of a work around I have tried saving every 30 minutes but thats a pain if you forget.

Here are my setting.

"C:\Program Files\Sonalysts Combat Simulations\Fleet Command\Fleet Command.exe" -megs 256 -noreplay

Any ideas?

Hey danomano

Is this happening with NWP19.0 install?

I have play FC for over a hour on two desktop (one with XP and other with Vista) with no problem.

Is there something running in the background on your PC's causing FC to CTD?

Try turning everything off that is not need that might help, also have you made any modifications to the game or NWP 19.0?

FC can be a bit finicky sometimes, there are a few things that you can do that are pretty easy to see if they help.

Run checkdsk, it'll check, verify and fix (kind of) any bad sectors or your drive. But more importantly it rebuilds all of Widows internal indexes and journaling.
Defrag your hard drive.
Shut down all anti-virus, fire wall, scanner software, etc to prevent conflicts. I actually use a program that does it automatically, I can post a link to it if you wish.

These three solve about 60% of the problems with FC cashing.

I get this problem at seemlingly random when i save games. Sometimes they load back up fine, other times they crash after x time passes and other times they crash when i access the flight deck of certain ships. It can be frustrating!

Yes this is happening with the NWP 19.0. I have no other mods on this game.
Background remember this is a work pc, Outlook, firewall,McV, that is it I think. This has happen with every version on Fleet command and I do have the latest version from SCS. It will even crash after reloading a save game. I will try and get a debug report.

Yeap did that before and still get crashes. I first I thought was lack of memory or cpu speed. Got a better PC from work and still crashes.

I only ask about the modifications, because if you doing any type of editing to the db files with the Fleet Command Database Editor. This can cause lots of problems including the game to CTD after playing the game for some time. :)

The editor I got here. All I ever used it for was to look around at the data never changed anything.

Here is the ini file.

I've just been playing the Florida strait A, and it has crash within 50 minutes, its must be something to do with the mission. Not to sure what it might be, but the mission doesn't seem to work very well to me.

That scenario has been a problem for years and I haven't been able to fix it. I even considered dumping it from the NWP scenarios.

I just posed a program you might want to try and see if it helps. AlacrityPC, its a shutdown and restart manager. Its posted in the Files thread under "Utilities."

I use it and have several start profiles I use with it.

Could it have something to do with being a original multiplayer scenario, or might the units need deleting and then re-placing in the mission editor.

Okay so I put a new install and reloaded 19.0. I still have the old missions from the orignal game and campaign but it did install the newer one except the new campaign. The installer did not delete them. Now how am I able to run the new campaign when they do not show up on the the list only the old one.

So for the I then tried the Tiawan mission and after an hour it too crashes.

Darn it!

Done that and still problems. Its not uncommon for the binary section of the scenario file to get corrupted, if you look at a scenario file with a text editor(I use Word) its the last 2/3 of the file that looks lie gobblety-gook. To fix this just delete all this junk, save it and then open the scenario in the Mission Editor and resave. It adds the binary section back on and solves many weird scenarios and crashes. Didn't help here.

Mike,

Be careful using Word as a text editor. It is a word processor which is a different "beast". Sometimes, hidden formatting instructions get imbedded without you knowing it.

You're better off using a pure text editor. Even the one in Windows Accessories is better for straight text than Word.

Your correct, I forgot to mention that when you open the file in Word you want to open it as a "Plain Text" file and save it as "Plain Text" also. That avoids the hidden Word nastiness.

Three things come to mind for me:

1. Other than the mission script, FC will also crash if it tries to load a unit's graphic with errors in it. Does it crash when you select a specific unit? When an event happens, e.g. when a missile is launched or when a unit is destroyed?

2. Does it happen at exactly 50 minutes or does it depend on what you do? What if you let the game run for 50 minutes without the AI and without doing anything? If it still crashes, it's probably a timed script. If not, maybe there's something wrong with the AI scripts, the game engine, or the graphics.

3. What operating system/hardware do you have
