Any news about the release of SAS?
Scenario related question: will it be possible to begin strategic play *before* the start of the war, in order to set naval construction policies, research priorities etc. a couple of years before the shooting starts?
Thanks in advance.

Chris can answer the first question. Re the second one:
- The campaign builder lets you set levels of technology (ie accept the historical defaults or change them as you would want) and many other parameters The parameters include choosing whether to restrict to historically completed ships, or to add planned ships (eg Montanas, H44 etc),or to add might have beens (eg Richlieu with the 16 inch guns designed by the French) or most flexible of all to allow use of the ship designer where you can design your own
- You exit from the campaign builder with a scenario that has resources to build ships but as yet no ships
- you can leave the scenario like that, leaving it up to the players to create their own navies from scratch within available resources, or you can create them yourself and then the campaign starts with your pre-created ships on one or both sides
I hope this helps

We look to be on schedule for a release later this month so far. We just had another major beta version posted by Tony and the beta team is working hard on making sure everything is in order, from there any final fixes, and from there the master v1.0 release canidate goes to the printers.

I assume, if post #2 is accurate, that you can thus have a prewar phase where you can build up your fleet before any shots would be fired? Imagine an IJN without any Yamatos, but with 6 extra Shokaku class CVs...

You can do that....;)
Imagine the Italians thumping the Brits with four ESSEX class-sized carriers.... :p

As always the days seem to drag when a release is imminent :)

I told Tony when he first came on board with us at NWS that publishing a wargame, especially for PC, is like trying to give birth to a porcupine. He quickly realized what I meant over the last few months. ;)

Its better to get it done right and to your expectation than release due to public pressure. Its not like we're going anywhere, just eager to buy, and just as eager to buy if it goes into December. Trust me, Im in the process of developing our first title not related to military simulations so its no easy task. Nearly impossible to really set a date other than when its finished really. Bugs pop up, a good feature creep just has to get in, but its all for the good of the product. Take your time guys, but throw us some more teaser shots will ya :) It helps keep the rabid mood to whip out the credit cards as we wait.

I will leave it up to Tony if he wants to post any screenshots beyond the media packs already posted. His plate is pretty full right now getting ready SAS-WW2 ready for publication.
Thanks. :)

I'll see what I can do, no promises and it wouldn't be before for a week or two at the earliest.

Which means SAS won't be ready before November at best -- I guess?

At present, Tony is staying fully focused on finalizing SAS-WW2.. all else depends on the reports from the beta testers who are right now plugging away at testing every angle of the latest beta of the SAS-WW2 engine. All of you will be notified as soon as I get the green light from the beta testers and Tony - when that happens, the printing of the DVD media and DVD cases will begin in preparation for shipping.
Thanks.
