Hi folks just wanted to say thanks for all your advise i have read on here. I now have a fully working copy of the game installed on my PC. I will list below excactly how i got it to work below. Thanks again!!

My spec:

Microsoft XP
Home edition
version 2002
Service Pack 3

Pentium 4 1.70GHZ
1.00Gb Ram
NVIDIA GeForce FX 5500
Directx 9 most recent one!

Ok i started by doing a full fresh install of windows xp on a new hardrive. I updated it to service pack 3. I then installed the most recent nvidia drivers for my fx5500.GeForce Release 175
Version: 175.19

I have an original copy of fighting steel which automaticaly installs it to 1.1.which i did next.

I then installed Fighting steel project

I tried to play the game like this which played ok at first but then 5 mins in to it it decided to freeze up or just run really slow eventually crashing out to the blue screen of death. If i exited the game before this it gave me the blue screen of death anyway.

I then read the forums to try and sort out what had gone wrong and decided to try and find some earlier graphics drivers which i did from here http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us i put in my type of card and found the earlist drivers which were ForceWare Release 90Version:93.71 WHQLRelease Date:November 2, 2006Operating System:Windows 2000, XP, Media Center EditionLanguage:U.S. EnglishFile Size:40.5 MB

After i had installed this the game worked superbly!!!! Thank you all very much!! I hope this helps someone!

Hi,

I've just (today) installed the 178.13 nVidia driver for Win XP (Geforce 6600 GT card)

FS runs fine, and then exits neatly to desktop!

Yipee!

Colin (slightly happy)

That's good news. Interesting; your system specs are very close to mine. In particular, we have the same graphics card.

But I've wasted too much time on this game and probably will not waste any more. I'm hesitant about going back to the earliest possible set of drivers for my Nvidia card because it just might cause other games I enjoy to not work any more.

That's great, however if you have an 8000 series video card this sim will most likely not work, even with the latest 180.40 drivers. After months of looking over the NVidia forums and trying every new driver that came out, it's been confirmed that this is a driver issue with the 8000 series cards and up. I actually have to use a separate computer to run Fighting Steel, but it's worth it because I can't find any WW2 naval simulation that's real time with all of the factors that are considered when using FSP.
