Due to our focus on NAW/WCDB/SAS we no longer officially support FS/FSP. This thread is for tech support and FAQs relating to FS/FSP where we will try to assist gamers that are still wanting to play the simulation and will be updated as time permits. We cannot however assure that FS/FSP will work with every combination of Windows/DX/PCs.

* Compatibility: FS was developed back in the time of Windows 95/98 in 1999 so it may help to run FS with the compatibility options offered in later versions of Windows.

* FSP v10.43 helps with DirectX9+ compatibility. Operating systems using DX10 may need files from DX9 to help run FS.

* It is recommended to shut down background programs such as anti-viruses, ZoneAlarm, Nero, etc.. when trying to run various games. Some of these utilities can interfere with various games. Firewalls are usually not a problem as they normaly only effect PC to PC/server/internet communications.

* Indeo video codec is no longer supported by modern PC technology so it is recommended to shut down the videos which can be found in the INI file of FS.

* Some players have reported that setting Fighting Steel to run in "Windows 2000" compatibility mode and checking the "disable desktop composition" setting allows the game to run more reliabily under Windows Vista or Win7.

* Possible solution: Download the redistributable DX installer from this website, <<< NEW UPDATE

Next, unpack it into an empty directory, and then run the DX installer. It has a LOT of older DX files in it and *may* help FS/FSP run on newer W7/Vista systems.
