View Full Version : Another Missile Problem

Ok, so I was playing a mission tonight, had some missiles headed towards one of my ships, a Ticonderoga cruiser. I flipped on all three of its radars, it recognized the missile, Ie when I clicked on the missile the source was listed as 2 of the ship's radars, so the ship should "see" it right? The missiles were well within range for the SM2s and when I told the ship to engage one of the missiles it said "cannot comply" acting like it didn't have a weapon to engage it with. When I told it to engage with an SM2 it acknowledged but did nothing. Finally the ship started to auto-engage several inbound missiles but they got a few NMs from the ship and disappeared. The ship fired several salvos that all disappeared at the same time not far from the ship and nowhere near the targets.
Any ideas as to the problem and or a fix?
Thanks.

Two things: the reason that your Tico didn't fire might have been that it didn't have a radar contact. You probably had ESM contact and maybe even ID via ESM but they may have been too low for the radar to detect until they were very close, remember, earth curvature. This is the whole purpose for sea-skimmers, short reaction time. Now SAM's disapearing might be a bug, that has been a problem for years and we continue to work on it but it never quite goes away.

Hey, another thought. Watch for this again and see if the crashing missiles are the SAM^ version or SAM~* version. The "^" version engages only aircraft while the "~*" version is also capable against ships. The have slightly different settings and that might be a clue.

No, it was being detected by both air search radars, the missiles were high enough and they were SSM missiles incoming. I will make sure I check which missiles it was firing but pretty sure when I selected it myself and when the ship auto-engaged them they were only the SAM version.
I also had a Burke destroyer engage a SSM but had the same results with it disappearing. I believe it was the SAM version as well, but I noticed both ships carried a different version of the SM2 but it didn't seem to make a difference.
Thanks for the info.

Some more info:
I purchased the SCS FC and installed it thinking the problem may have been from using the Janes version. I tried using 18.3 and also tried using version 19. I followed the installation instructions to the T, .INI settings are all correct and yet SAMs still disappear a few NMs from the ship.
I have been trying this on the Persian Rug Burn mission as it doesn't take long for stuff to start flying. My ships have both radars on, one tries to engage the SCUDs headed towards my airfield while another tries to engage SSMs, no matter what, the SAMs get a few miles away and disappear. Another weird thing happened the last time I tried it, 2 of the SCUD launchers blew up almost as soon as the game started even though I had no units near them and none fired anything at them.
I am at a total loss as to what to do. I have uninstalled everything and reinstalled everything several times, I bought the SCS version, I have checked the .INI. WHY WILL IT NOT WORK? Needless to say, its really frustrating.
Any ideas?

Just on a hunch ...
Try launching the scenario, let it run for a minute or two, save it, then launch the saved game.
See if that has any effect.

Tried it and it worked on the one mission I tried! Thanks so much!
On another note, I forgot to mention, whenever I close the game I get a message saying it encountered an error and has the options of sending report, not sending, and debug. I have always gotten this message when using the Jane's version so I assumed it was just some incompatibility issues with XP, but I am still getting it with the SCS version, could this be causing problems as well? Is there any information to be gathered from it to help troubleshoot?
Thanks for the help!

This is starting to sound exactly like a problem I've been having forever now. If it is, well, I can't help you fix it, but I can help you avoid it.
Do all the scenarios you run involve aircraft? If so, try another experiment. Create a quicky scenario ... just 5 or 6 ships on each side. Put them about 40nm apart and play though.
Then play a scenario involving aircraft. Let me know if you get the error upon exit, but I'm going to guess that you'll exit fine when no aircraft are involved (if it's the same problem I've had).
Also, do you have any crashes during the game?
I've noticed for some reason, the game gets really quirky with missiles now and then. Lots of misses, missiles disappearing. I remember watching over 20+ Harpoons miss the same target.
The only work-around I've found is to save the game and then load the saved game. It's not a 100% fix, but it seems to work most of the time.
If you get crashes, then you have to save the game, wait for the first crash, then launch the saved game. It won't crash after that, and you'll exit fine (usually ... I still save it when the mission is over so if I get that error report window, I can reload, quit, and see the after action report.
Also keep in mind that any missiles in the air when you save the game will always miss their targets when you reload from the saved game file. You'll want to try and save your game when there are the least number of missiles flying. It's usually better to have to replay a few minutes of the game than to have a bunch of wasted missiles.
Hope this helps.

Try to disable your screen saver. For some reason it improves the functionality of nwp

This problem should have been fixed in 19.0.

It will be in 19.1, recall that it was a positioning problem in the launcher record.

Opps, your right. Fixed in 19.01

Ok, to save me some confusion lets start over. Lets look at each problem separately and see what so can you list each or the problems then we'll address them one at a time.
The problem with the self detonating TBMs is fixed already in the yet to be released 19.01 bug fix. So you can leave that off the list.

OK...I will leave that one alone then and wait patiently for 19.01...thanks.....

I Actually re-read the post.....my problem was not with the TBMs detonating...it is with the SAMs launching off of a ship then disappearing shortly after launch. I tried saving and reloading, turning off the screen saver..etc....\
Nothing is working...I am still losing the SAMs within seconds of there launch.
That was my problem,
Any suggestions?
