I have installed SCS into my vista laptop, deleting the scenario, database and doctrine files. Then I install the 19.0 auto installer and began tweaking with the shortcut properties to rid myself of the flickering screen(as noted on a previous thread). Anyway, I find a temporary fix, logging myself in and try a scenario (6th Battle). I decided to beef it up a bit and using the scenario editor find besides 6th Battle, but 2 version of files named 7th Battle. Now, being a bit slow, go back into the scenario selector looking for the 7th Battle and find none. I then go back into the scenario editor and open the 6th Battle file, only to find different carrier variant nd totally different layout then the scenario that plays when selected.

Longer story made shorter, is this is totally bizarre. I deleted/uninstalled the entire game, re-installed game and NWS 19.0 and still find wierd scenarios in my folder. I even purposely cut and pasted from my XP version and still found the extra scenarios, but not the ones I created or modified that were cut and pasted. Is this an Vista'ism that somehow secretly stores a mirror image somewhere I am not finding? Am I the only one experiencing this oddity? Please help....

Thanks,
Matt

Matt:

At the risk of belaboring the obvious, are you sure Vista actually removed the old SCS scen's when you deleted them? Vista seems so dedicated to protecting the user from himself, that I've found it sometimes necessary to jump through hoops to get it to actually get rid of stuff.

Carl,

You know, I am thinking Vista does store them somewhere, but haven't found them yet. I was truly hoping someone would log on that is Vista smarter then I, to tell me it does have said feature and how to disable or eliminate the saved file. It's a shame, because I love the game, but have to rid the machine of the older files first before I can re-install and successfully play it. I guess I will resort to my XP rig until I move. Thanks and here's hoping a Vista guru appears in the immediate future.

Found the problem.....Vista does indeed save a mirror image as part of it's file backup. However, it hides this file and keeps it in case of emergency. I downloaded a file from alphisoft that scans your HD for shadow files and provides an option to delete them....more ammo for disliking of vista........
