Amazingly enough I am able to run FS on VISTA

Thegameloads and such, but when I drop into the 3d environment I get all sorts of weird graphical errors.

My preferences seem to have a lot to do with this....Is sea textures are onj then everythng is a huge blurry mess.

With seatextures off, most things work except most of my ships are invisible or are missing parts.

ie Most of my German ships have decks only....no hulls....no gunss....just a flat deck hovering over the surface.

Im runnign VISTA with an NVIDIA 7800GT and downgraded to 9.0c....as much as I could do that.

I want to play this game so badly....I'd be willing to spend $$$ just to have a system that could run it, but even my old XP system cannot even boot it up.

Sigh....when oh when will we ever have a 3d warship combat game?

Help?

If you are running under the Vista operating system you need to download and install the latest Directx 9.0 redistributable runtime package in order to fully install DirectX 9. The latest DX9 (English-language version) can be downloaded from the following URL:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=822640ab-0983-4c41-9c70-632f6f42c557&displaylang=en)

The reason this is important is that you are not really downgrading to DX 9.0, you are actually adding some files that were left out of the vista operating system and dx10. You must use the above link to download the " right " dx 9 version which includes these files.

With the errors you are getting it seems like a 3d problem, could also be a memory problem - if you like give us the amount of memory you have, and the type of computer you have and we'll see what we can do.

I have a Gateway with Dual Core 2.13 Processors
2 Megs of RAM and an NVIDIA 7600GT card. (not 7800...sorry typo)

Running VISTA, and already added the runtime package long ago.

Ok, let's see what we can do.

2 megs ram ? you mean 2 Gigs on motherboard - right

Model of computer?

Driver version of Nvidia card?

Nvidia cards have know problems for crashing when you exit the game depending on the driver version.
The problems you are getting is graphical in nature, does the game crash when you exit?
Graphical problems are known driver issues in Vista.

Read this: http://forums.nvidia.com/lofiversion/index.php?t45256.html

Driver version 93.71 seems to work for your card - this is the version I have and is the most stable version for the 7xxx series of Nvidia cards.

Have you noticed that all the problems encountered with Fighting Steel are Nvidia related?

Hope this helps,

John

Okay....tried to install 93.71 but it says it only works with XP. It doesnt even recognize VISTA as being a windows OS, and it terminates the install.

HOw did you get it to work?

Hi

I now have a Vista laptop. It has an Nvidia 8600M in it, with 256MB dedicated memory, so it's up to the job power-wise. I haven't tried Fighting Steel on it yet, just assuming it wouldn't work, so I have watched this little thread with interest.

One thing about Nvidia drivers, especially with dedicated card in desktops, is that providing your card has enough juice, you can almost use any of their drivers. Their chip drivers are not specific to any one chip or card, but are completely generic. As people have indicated, I found I could get FSP to work on my XP machine, simply by using the driver you're using. But, and this is just a guess, I have a feeling that it may not just be that driver that works. More recent drivers may work, and it may just be hit and miss. There hasn't been that much discussion on the topic of FSP, Vista, and Drivers, so there may be some hope that you might find a Vista compatible driver that will do the trick, even if it's just by a process of trial and error.

I'm sorry if that's not much help. For myself, I'm going to keep watching to see how you get on - so good luck to you :)

Sorry to hear it didn't work - my fault - you right that is a XP driver, not vista. I got the forceware numbers mixed up - Nvidia is driving me crazy.

I have two machines - tend to only use my xp system, I do not have a Nvdia Card on my Vista System only on XP. My vista system runs the game fine with a ATI card.

As I was saying the Nvidia drivers at this time are filled with bugs. Other video cards work fine - the problem is with the new Nvidia drivers. Even for XP you have to use the older drivers for Nvidia. 93.71 works fine for XP and FS. The newer versions, for XP, which are suppose to improve you video card, etc - give a Fatal Crash on exit from game. I know it happened to me several time when trying to upgrade.

The same goes for vista - the newer forceware versions do not work for this game.
I am not sure which forceware version works for Vista - maybe someone out there knows
It is not only this game but other games also.
It is interesting to note that Nvidia drivers cause almost 33% of vista crashes, right now i'll try to stay away from vista and nvidia while playing games - too many headaches.
But there has to be a solution somewhere - right?

I tried to find you the earliest ( oldest non beta ) forceware ( drivers ) for your card and vista.

Take a look at the following: http://www.nvidia.com/object/winvista_x86_100.65.html

I don't like the idea of going back to older drivers to get a game to work - but this is the case with Nvidia graphic cards.

Let us know what happens so we can help other people out there.
