It appears the Navy's SM-3 missile has struck the dead satellite. Closing at a rate of 20,000 miles per hour, the SM-3 struck the target at 130 miles.
Possibly " the shot heard 'round the world". I am certain our opponents in the world are looking at this, carefully.
Good Shooting, Navy.

Dam that some missile . That's one way of fixing a dead satellite problem, right and easy that's the Navy way I guess. It would be nice to see some video of it knoking out that satellite.
Niceone ;):D;)

yeah, they stirred up a bees nest though. Some countries are saying it was a test of an anti-sattellite weapon, using the failing spy bird as an excuse for the test. Even if what the public line is - is the truth (and I think it probably is) - that they wanted to prevent large pieces and the fuel from potentially causing damage, there are going to be those that don't, or choose not to believe them.
Next time China or Russia wants to down a sattellite, the US can't say too much now.
Well its nice to know the crew of the Lake Edna aren't complete screw ups.

USS LAKE ERIE (CG 70).
Well yeah... :p Lake Edna was the screw up of Cruser Destroyer Group one when her and my ship (USS Chosin) were stationed in Pearl for the 4 years I was on sea duty. ;)

Aaahhhh....
Sorry, Rick; I didn't recognize the spank.
I've had dealings with some of the prima donas from LAKE ERIE; most were not pleasant.

Correct me, if I am wrong, but the Valley Forge was recently used as a missile test target and was sunk? She was the first of her class decommissioned due to the obsolescence of her missile system, IIRC.

Not suprising, they were tagged as the at sea trials ship for the SM-3 just before I got out. The crew was quite smug about it. Though it made perfect sense, I mean this is the ship that once shot several CIWS rounds into the hills near Aiea, the ship that got only a single Battle "E" in 6 years, and the ship that so badly screwed up their duties as Battle Group AAW coordinator in the Gulf during our '97 WESTPAC, that the Admiral sent them back to port and gave the job to us.
So naturally they got the prestigious SM-3 duty.

Dennis:
I'm certain the Bear and the Dragon didn't like the Eagle's demonstration of technical expertise. It will give them something to ponder.

Yes. Ponder how in the world they are possibly going to reverse engineer this weapon system. :p

Yes she was DECOMed, I don't know about a SINKEX for her.
