Fleet Command CC

I have install Vista HP 64bit onto my new motherboard, and Fleet Command seem to work fine with vista, has well as FC runs on XP. :D
I don't if it's to do with the new motherboard, or the new ATI Catalyst™ 8.6 Display Driver released, or the new the vista update or because I have brought a Naval Combat Pack.

I just bought the Naval Combat Pack in order to install FC on my new Vista laptop. (Janes with NWP always worked great on my old Dell WinME laptop, but I figured I'd start with the newest version for the new machine.)
I'm getting video problems and freezes. Doesn't crash to desktop, but flickers real bad and freezes. According to the task manager it's still running. I'm using the video card settings reccommended in the readme file, and I'm running it in XP compatibility mode, but no help.
For the moment, I'm running it "as is" out of the box (haven't loaded NWP yet or any other patches).
Any thoughts or feedback from other successful Vista users?
Thanks,
Carl

Carl, while I don't offer a fix for the flickers, I did find a work around. Mine would freeze up on the intro screen, so used the property options to skip opening and it boots right into the menu screen. Then, while flickering, just click about where the name logon is and click away. I have also found that if I hit the windows key, temporarily exitting from the game and log back on the flickering is gone. Personally, I prefer playing it on XP, but when playing on my laptop, I am forced to use the Vista.
PS, I am also going to try the -d3d option to see if it minimizes flickering as well.

Matt:
Thanks for the prompt and very helpful reply. Killing the opening and going to D3D seems to have eliminated all the filickers - based on a short test of a couple scen's. Now to load NWP...

This isn't a Vista issue, since I'm running XP, but it's one that has baffled me for literally years, and hopefully someone might have some insight.
In order for me to play the game, I have to use a glide wrapper. Without it, I literally get about 2 fps. I don't mind using a wrapper, but it would be nice to run the game in a higher resolution (the wrapper doesn't support 1280x1024).
Here's the mystery:
This problem has persisted over multiple computers that I've owned over the years. It happened when I had 512 megs of RAM, 1 gig, and 2 gigs. It has happened throughout 4 different video cards (currently running an Nvidia 8600 GT). It happens on "out of the box" Fleet Command as well as through a slew of NWS updates. It happened on the old Janes version and it happens on the new Sonalyst version. It has happened on Win98, ME, and now XP. It continues to happen despite any command line tweaks in the Read Me. It happens even after a fresh install. The problem has persisted through a dozen driver updates. It happens regardless of the screen resolution.
This leads me to believe that it isn't a computer problem, but some kind of game settings problem ... but I couldn't even guess what it could be. I don't touch the .ini settings.
The only clue I can give is this:
When I'm in full 3D view (F3 key), the game runs fine. No slowdown or choppy frame rate at all. It's only when I have the bottom information panel on that the game bogs down. As long as I don't want to look at the unit information and the maps, I'm fine.
The only commonality between the 4 or so computers this has happened on has been that all 4 of them ran Nvidia cards.
Anyone have any ideas?

Hey Saffron
I guess you have probably tried this, but I'm going to say it any way.
Have you try having the ( 2D Map Resolution set ) to Low and ( Use Relief Shading on Map ) On or off? ;)

Hey Carl
Have you tried different GPU drivers, and turning off Internet Security Protection Software, and any other background program that will help with the dame flicking.

Hello every one.
It's been a while since I visited. I noticed that Saffron mentioned a Glide Wrapper. Which one are you using sir? I'm interested because I have this problem as well since I upgraded to a 8800GT. Slow frame rates and terrible graphics. I would like to try this solution and see what results I get. Thank you in advance.

You could also try running Vista in the best Performance mode.
Left click Welcome Center.
Left click Show more details.
Left click Change Settings.
Left click Advanced.
Left click Settings...
Left click Adjust for best performance.
Left click Apply and click OK.
This helps with the flickering in Fleet Command. :D
