Hi:
The end of an era? Perhaps. Fidel Castro, long ailing has resigned his position as head of state and paved the way for his brother to lead Cuba. Will one of Communism's last bastions of strength finally fall? Stay tuned.

I still think we should just open up Cuba to US tourism and watch the flood of capitalism into the country. I'd bet that would do far more to boost Cuba toward democratic reforms than all the stupid sanctions and such that the US seems to so enjoy.
Personally I think the sanctions Idea is bad - it almost always hurts the people of a country more than the leadership that is being disagreed with.

It might continue in a modified form for a few years longer. The real changes will come after Fidel has passed and his brother or successor has complete latitude to change the system. With the Russians gone as buddies, Cuba will change. It might be better for it to be gradual. Some modified form of democracy. It is a small island and might support a direct form of democracy rather than a representative, federal system. But it will take time.

I agree that would be a good thing, but I think the US needs to take a bit of time before it does anything. Lets see what the new leader does, that's if you can call me that.
Also one thing I find odd, is Castro brother is only a few year younger, I can't see the point there can you?
Hi Fellas
Chris is right, of course, (see below) and my apologies to all.
Another one of my late night extravaganzas! I was going to get out of bed to delete my post (it has been known before!) but fell asleep. Sorry fellas. I sometimes lose the thread of the thread. The best thing about coming here is that politics is OUT, but I sometimes transgress when I’m tired. Fortunately it looks like I still have the chance to remove it.
Cheers,
Martin
