HI Guys,
For what it is worth. Regarding the Enterprise's designation as a night carrier. In Stafford's "The Big E" on page 420, he describes how Enterprise left Pearl on Christmas Eve 1944 as a night carrier. His quote "She was no longer USS Enterprise CV-6, but the USS Enterprise CV(N)-6."
I couldn't find the old thread. The author, Edward Stafford, was a career naval officer who served on surface ships in WW II and became a naval aviator in 1950. Among the official documents he quotes in his bibliography is "Narrative History and Chronological Order of Events, USS Enterprise CV-6 12 May 1938-25 September 1945" and it's supplement. Perhaps that's where the affirmative info lies.
