Well, I just went out yesterday and bought a new HP DV6-6135dx laptop. It wasn't the high end gaming system, but that wasn't a priority in my purchase. I didn't need a system geared for productivity or multimedia, but a budget laptop with good graphics, combo blu-ray optical drive with a large hard drive and plenty of features like four USB ports including two high speed, dual headphone jacks. It does support wireless N but not dual band, really unnecessary for my purposes. It has 6 GB of ram, with a battery life of 5 hrs. All in all, for less than $700 dollars it was a great bargain. I also has Microsoft Office Starter which fits perfect with my work and I purchased Outlook 2010 for it. It has an excellent case and biometric reader for fingerprint security which is an interesting feature. Graphically it has an on chip radeon graphics processor along with a separate radeon graphics processor which allows it to switch between the two and the screens are instant on. The graphics processor is the AMD Radeon HD 6620g.

Interestingly, I also received my new Panzer Corps game and that got loaded immediately. Works great. I am still exploring its capabilities, and it is proving fun. Cost per performance was always the criteria in this purchase. I had enough money to buy even the most expensive high end laptop with a larger screen but that to me, would have overindulgence.

Dennis:

What is your opinion of the AMD processor? I know that in the past there were some software applications that it didn't work well with. One advantage though is that you can get a powerful laptop it a lower cost than one with an Intel Core processor.

From my personal experience of being around PCs since 1980.. I have NEVER had any issues with any AMD processor I have ever owned and over 95% of the PC processors I have had were AMDs. I run 2 AMD boxes right now.. my personal business box runs 5-6+ apps at a time without even a hiccup. I also do FPS gaming, PC wargaming, coding, etc.. never a problem.

Hi Ed:
I have two AMD processor systems and have had no issues with them ever. I run standard off the shelf software, with nothing fancy. If there are issues, I haven't heard about them recently.
