I just seen an article about Miss England and her being plus sized. The young girl is very attractive and I feel it's about time a paegant & society recognise you don't have to have a Brittany Spears/Jessica Simpson type body to be attractive.
What do you think???

Brian ,ye possessor of a spare tire himself!!!!!! LOL !!!!!!!:)

Obiously the writer doesn't like her but I feel the writer misses one large point about beauty contests in that outward physical looks are only what 25? , 30?, 35? or 40? of the total score ???? However my main point is that it's about time that society gets over emphasis of what an ideal body is. The writer attacks on being an improper role model from the nutritional standpoint however I wonder if the writer can understand the phsycological impact of society telling people there something less if they don't look a certain way.

No spare tire here, I have a keg instead of a measly 6 pack myself! I have no problem with plus size and frankly think most of the models the use these days are anorexic stick figures.

Hi,
About time we had somebody true to real life with some genuine curves, instead of some skinny beanpole in a bathing suit.

The media are very hypocritical. They spend a lot of time saying how terrible it is that women (especially the size-zero models!) feel they have to be ultra-thin. Then there is either criticism of beauty contests as being meat-markets, or alternatively people will justify them as saying that they are about "the whole person". Then the moment someone who's a size 16 shows up - shock! horror!.

Serves them right. I don't like beauty contests, but given she's already in it, and it's a big one, I hope she wins. :)

She's obviously very pretty as you can see from her photo, and I find the writer is being a little hypocritical about her weight. Sure, being overweight is not good for your health, but let's face it, most of us will struggle with weight issues at some period in our lives and considering how cruel the world treats women who don't look like a leggy supermodel at least this woman has courage to believe in herself. Also I would rather have a plumb girl than some stick figure model who looks ready to die if she ate a slice of pizza.

Ed according to the US hight/weight standards Arnold Schwarzenegger at the hight of his bodybuilding career was considered over weight. I had a friend in the Navy who was full blooded Samoan he was 5'8" and weighed 250lbs but according to the H/W standards his BMI was 29 but when he got a bouyancey test which is more accurate it was 12. I had watched him in our ships gym max the weight machine in every way.

John:

If it's honest muscle, then you don't have to worry about any arbitrary height weight ratio.
