The program is a true story of how the HMS Venturer hunted down and sank the U-Boat U864 in February 1945, the only time two submarines duelled to the death.

This drama-documentary was on Sunday on BBC one, and I thought that all the Navy Enthusiast like me on this forum that can't get BBC One in there country would like to see it.

Check out the link.

I have seen the program twice. It is very good but, strangely, it never mentions the U-boat's use of its snorkel. It says that Venturer, could hear U864's diesels but never mentions sighting the snort mast, although they saw the periscope. U864 was a snorkel fitted boat and the sound of diesels means it must have been used, and therefore it's mast was raised continuously, at least during the first part of the action. The fact that U864 began to zig-zag suggests that they had heard Venturer and, obviously, the first action would have been to switch to electric motors and lower the snort mast.
