I have noticed that your F in quotes, is preceeded and followed by a space. In the text, there are no F's preceeded or followed by a space. So, in that sense, the answer is none, because in ASCII, which is what a text processor using a keyboard is actually displaying, a space is a character 20h. However, literally, I see only three F's.

And so we get the engineers response... ;)

I got 6. I bet the one's who only counted 3 didn't count the 'F' located in the word 'of.'

How silly of me! There are six, counting the three "OF". The brain has trouble processing the "OF". Dumb Brain.

Interestingly, if you had used a serif font, most of us would have seen the "OF"'s. Example:
FINISHED FILES ARE THE RE
SULT OF YEARS OF SCIENTI
FIC STUDY COMBINED WITH
THE EXPERIENCE OF YEARS...
This is an example of the same text in courier new, which is a serif font. The serif is the tick marks at the end of each letter. They are used in body text to make it easier for your eyes to follow the text. Non-serif fonts are used in headings and titles.

I got suspicious and chose to just count F's instead of reading it - and yep, the ol' brain catches the ffff sound and classifies it as an "F" but since we pronounce the F in "of" as a V, brain doesn't count that.
I got 6 of them, largely due to my suspicious nature which has served me wall over the years!
And I'm an engineer too - so there.

I've found that many times we engineering types out think ourselves instead of thinking simply. It's real easy to do. One of the best pieces of advice for my team was to be aware that you can overcomplicate a problem and miss the solution. That's why engineer's work in teams. I have always liked the team concept in solving problems.

... I have always liked the team concept in solving problems ...
Unfortunately, throughout my career in the corporate world, most of the time I was on teams with managers ..... you know morons! :D As long as the solution fit the right measurement metric, it didn't matter whether it solved the problem or not.

I've been down that route. The greatest moment in my career was near the end. To go to meetings, listen to the dumb solutions to IT problems and realize " I won't be here when they have to implement this crap." It was a defining moment.

I was doing uncle stuff with my 10 year old nephew this last weekend (almost 60 out and sunshine, get it while it lasts). Anyway he had a very hard problem with the ol': "What weighs more, a pound of feathers or a pound of lead" question. His mom doesn't make him think and I could hear gears grinding as the long unused wheels started to kreek ahead. "So what'd weigh more, a thousand pound elephant or a thousand pound bird" he asks. Obviously neither I said. I started to smell smoke in the air at this point as the gears were getting up to speed.
Ok, try this then, I said. What is longer, a foot piece of licorice or a foot piece of rope? At this the light bulb went off nearly blinding me.

When you say Engineer, are you a software Engineer? :)
old_pop2000

No. I am not a designer of software, more of an electronics engineering type, also a system's administrator. I have been retired for six years, so those days are past.
