Hi:

I think Tiger Woods kids are going to be great golfers since their mother handles a driver as well as their dad does!:D Sorry that whole story is just so silly.

That the story made the news at all is a disgusting tribute to what the American public thinks of as news (before you say that its the news media, remember that the media only presents what the public has shown a prediliction for.)

My position is that he is a human being and flawed. But he has the right to have privacy, so why not leave him alone.

Absolutely agree with you Dennis. The guy may have screwed up his marriage, but that's his problem. If you or I had done that, it certainly would not have appeared on the nightly news. Leave the guy alone and save time and/or print space for real news.

If the media followed up on gossip about every bit of famous person questionable behaviour there would not be any room for any other news. There is a fine line between "tabloids" and "mainstream" media anymore and such ratings driven sensationalism shows the utter double standard of the industry.

The news services need to go back to respecting peoples privacy. I agree, that if it is a high government official who could be compromised by security, that is different. However, once that has been cleared up, then leave him alone. People in the US have a perverse sense of fun. I don't even care what my neighbor is doing, as long as he doesn't bother me.

Just to be contrary I will play devil's advocate for a moment:

If you make a fortune mostly off the image of being a professional athlete who is a 'straight arrow', and you then screwup in public, you have little grounds to complain when that screwup bites your fortune in the a$$. :D

He still has the right to privacy, how people react to professional competency and image does not give them some right to invade his privacy.

Hi William,

Well I never considered Woods a "straight arrow". I've always thought of him as wired too tightly, arrogant, and probably way too focused on golf from a young age. I doubt he has any concept of what real life is all about. I especially doubt that he has any idea that the world does NOT revolve around him.

That being said, this little episode will cost him, both at home and professionally (especially in endorsements). However, I think that the media and its audience are being their usual voyeuristic selves. I wish they would stop wasting time on this because I could care less. I didn't care that Eisenhower did the horizontal bop with Kay Somersby, or that JFK did it with every women he met. I didn't care that LBJ held his dogs up by their ears or that Clinton doesn't think some erotic acts are sex. So the indiscretions of a mere golfer are nothing.

Tabloid journalism is too easy. My wish is that journalists would work a little harder and present real news.

I watch the Jim Lehrer news hour frequently - it blows the networks out of the water as far as content and information. Wish the networks would go back to investigatory news instead of "entertainment tonight" stories!

William, I agree with you to a point. They should run the story, but now they're using this as a lever to get into Tiger's business across the board. They over do it. I always wonder what potentially important story they're NOT telling when they spend 10 minutes of a 1/2 hour evening news broadcast on Tiger.

1000% AGREE.. just like the Terry Shivo situation a few years back. If the media does not get the answers they want from public police, or other sources, records (a damn good reason why Woods won't talk to the police) then they will make stuff up or imply wrong doing by their tone just to maintain the "ratings momentum". They even stated such by "alleging" that by Woods not talking to the "media" or police implies he did something really bad - don't give the media what they want, they will make it up as they go along - deliberate media public allegation and implication blackmailing tactics. They do the same with the military news stories constantly. You see the same type of gossip allegation tactics used in a wide range of "communications" methods online. Allegations are nothing more then cheap shots used to replace true investigative and/or intelligent thought processes.

Chris:

I think that fine line has been obliterated a long time ago. One thing I will say is if Mr. Woods was dallying with all the women whose pictures are appearing in the papers, at least he knows how to pick good looking ones unlike our former president Bill Clinton.;)

What I don't get is why would he cheat on his wife? She's hot as hell even after two kids!

Kurt:

According to the leaked text messages and second hand sources Tiger was complaining to his mistresses that marriage and family wasn't all it was cracked up to be. So why did he get married then? Hell he should be like Derek Jeter. Single, rich, famous, handsome and able to date anybody he wants. Tiger could have had a different girlfriend every year if wanted to.

Who knows (or cares) what motivates these rich pinheads. Their egos are so outsized that they can't relate to normal people, and vice versa!

I agree about the News Hour with Jim Lehrer. I also like Bill Moyer's Journal, he always has interesting topics and good guests.

I agree that they should run the story about the accident, then leave it the hell alone. Let's concentrate on the other newsworthy items like health care, Afghanistan etc. Forget Tiger Woods, he is just a dimple knocker.

That's all fine and dandy, Ed. But you don't have to live with her, do you. She might be a witch, in fine clothing. She might be a gold digger. It's really irrelevent. Who cares?

Unfortunately that is true. Tiger before he was married dated a string of super models including Tyra Banks (who I am sure he is glad he didn't marry, she's another head case!):D

Dennis:

That echoes what one of my lunch buddies said. Until ths opens her mouth, you have no idea what she is like. I think Tiger wanted the glamorous marriage and wife and found out too late that he didn't have it. Should have stayed singel for a few more years. Hell I didn't get married until I was 41 (far too late in my own opinion for me).
