A sad day.
I thought I knew who Charlton Heston was, but he was clearly a man who changed his attitudes and views over the years. A complex man, but clearly one of the "greats". Here are a couple of BBC articles about his death (& life).

Chris:
I didn't always agree with his political opinions, but I loved his work and respected his honesty. Another great one gone. RIP Chuck, you were an American original.

I don't look at it as our loss, but his families. Frankly, Hollywood is not worth many of those actors. But Mister Heston's legacy is his strong performances and his stand on many issues. His actions to recover the image and lead the NRA from a vilified advocacy group to a picture of concerned Americans about some of their rights, should be a model. While I don't entirely agree with all of their point in their platform, they have realized that controls are necessary, to a certain extent. I believe that his presence, moved them from an extreme position, to a more moderate position. That would be a great legacy, along with the body of work in films. He made his character's believeable. I believe his work with Gregory Peck, Burl Ives in The Big Country was excellent.

Dennis:
He had presence, that impossible to define quality. He even could poke fun at himself as did on a sitcom back when he was still able to perform (I think it was Friends). And I agree, he was probably the best thing to happen to the NRA. He gave them respectability.
