Lately I've been messing around with one of the games developed for the open-source Spring engine, Spring: 1944 - http://s44.koshi.homelinux.net/
The basic idea is it's tactical-scale land combat set in late WWII; you can call in time-limited airstrikes (say, a pair of P-47Ds armed with 500-lb. bombs that will remain active for three minutes before returning to base) and some smaller naval vessels are available (although the game balance and graphics for those are still being worked out), but mostly it's constructing infantry, AFV, and artillery units and duking it out for command points (flags that must be captured on the map). Fun little RTS diversion you can download for free; an added bonus is that the engine allows first-person command of combat units for those times when you want to drive a Tiger II on a rampage or give an enemy armor column some personal attention in an Il-2 Shturmovik :D
