So I went and saw the new movie last night, and oh my God it was 3 hours long.
So I just figured I would post a thread and see if anyone else had saw it.
I am suprised that it got high ratings. The story is completely fictional, and from what I have seen in my life time, people tend to get really upset when people go and start twisting the facts of a major event like WW II, regardless if you put fiction in front of the title or not.
In this movie they completely change the outcome of the War.
So what do you guy's think?

Brad Pitt was on Real Time with Bill Maher and stated that the picture is a comedy....:p. I will wait till it gets on on HD pay per view where I can watch it for free. No sense paying if I don't have too. So, I don't have an opinion other than it was entertainment. Were you entertained? If so, then he succeeded.

I'll be going to see it in theaters sooner or later. After all I can't pass up a Tarantino movie.

I guess it could qualify as a comedy, but if was awfully bloody one at that. You are tempted to laugh at the stupid remarks that Pitt says.
And it is a different type of movie from anything I have ever seen. They break the movie 4 times with a slide that says "ACT 1", "ACT II", and so on. I do not believe I have ever seen a movie do that.
I guess I can say I was entertained, although I think the movie could have been a lot better. I did not regret going and paying to see it, so all in all it was okay. From now on I will stick to Clint Eastwood, and his WW II movies.
At least they stick to the proper timeline, and do not make things up.

I believe that 'inglourious' is the old world spelling for 'inglorious'. 'Basterd's' might mean a group, possibly a pun.
The movie is Tarentino's adventure into counterfactual history, and just entertainment.
With My Compliments

My friend wants to go see it. Three hours? There are only two things I want last three hours: A Bruce Springsteen concert and you can guess the other one.
Considering that Quentin Tarention made this film I'm not surprised he took liberties. He is on record as saying that action is character. The most overrated director in movie history.

Actually, the Tigers were Yugoslavian T-34's covered to look like Tiger I's. Sherman's were Yugoslavian Sherman's, so they were real. Good movie.

A trip to the theater isn't that much. It costs me less then $20 to go to Storm Lake to see the movie, but then again just about everything is dirt cheap around here.

The actual ticket only cost $7.00 plus $5.00 for a large popcorn, $4.50 for a large pop and whatever it cost me for the bag of skittles that I bought. After the movie I collected my sister (she went to Storm Lake with me so she could hang out with some guy she knows....), and then drove around to find some place that was still open at 10:30pm so we could get some supper.

That stuff is so over priced it is obscene, the last time I purchased popcorn at a theater was 2000. I used to wear a coat big enough to smuggle in a 12oz bag of chips and a 1 liter soda.

Hi John,
Yes, the prices are way high. If I remember correctly, virtually all of the proceeds from ticket sales basically go to the movie producers and distributers while theaters survive on concession sales. Perhaps that is why in the last few years, theaters are branching out to do mass meetings, concerts, and special events via simulcast.

I agree, Mike. I don't go to movies anymore because I am just not going to pay those prices. I can wait six months for Pay Per View, then get a beer and make some kettle corn and watch the movie for free. We retirees have to pinch the pennys somewhere.

Hi Dennis,
I agree. A few years back, I started collect my favorite movies on DVD (most for 9.99) and watch them on the big screen. The wife bought one of those movies type pocorn makers for the family room so you can have real movie popcorn on the cheap. : ) She also bought one of those rotary magazine DVD players that load by remote control!
I haven't taken the PPV plunge yet.

Well, the only reason I use PPV is because my son works for Cox Cable and pays the bill, so I get PPV for free. He keeps hitting on me to use it more, so I might start today. I have a stir crazy popcorn popper and a four quart soup kettle that I make kettle corn in.
I am accumulating a library of my favorite movies, especially the ones made in the '40's, 50's and early 60's. I rip them and convert to IPOD, then when I go on a cruise, I can sit and watch all my favorites. I also have the first two seasons of Foyles War on PBS and Meerkat Manor. I am going to get the third season of Foyles and possibly the Sherlock Holmes series with the late Jeremy Brett. I can also record the programs on my computer since I have Media PC with a TV card. It's great fun.

Ah but there are just some movies that you have to experience on a true movie theater screen, for example the recent Star Trek movie.

Possibly that is true, but my 33 inch flat screen and Bose system for sound is more than adequate for me. I am not a real movie buff actually. Frankly, I would rather save my money and go on a nice week or two week cruise. See other nations and other parts of the US, is more to my liking. Glad to hear all of you enjoy it though.

Ah but you live in a costal area. A cruise would be insanely expensive for me since I would also have to pay for a flight to get to the ship. Plus I am single, and going on a cruise by myself just seems rather pointless.

FYI Most of the cruises heading up north, start in LA or somewhere else. Most of the San Diego based cruise ships head south. I don't go south. I don't agree about going on a cruise by yourself, because I've seen a lot of single women together. Might be a good spot to find a rich young lady.:p
