I have one quick question: does the nation given in the scenario file have any effect on the performance of the ships? E.g., there is a big difference between RN shells in 1914 & 1918. I've noticed that the assigned nation, in mixed scenarios, seems random for each ship, & also that the national numbers for WWII are used in WWI scenarios. Does this make any difference whatsoever?

Nations and dates can make a difference, including the use of Greenboy shells.

What do you mean by national numbers for WWII are used in WWI scenarios? Not sure what you meant there.

A battle against the RN in 1915 and the same RN ships in 1918 can be a bit of a wake up as to what AP shells that work can do - particularly if packed into 15" guns. Jutland may have been a bit more interesting had RN shells penetrated armor then exploded rather than mostly exploding on contact or while penetrating.

What I mean is the nation assigned to each ship, in a mixed scenario. The "nation" is shown in 2 ways: a number from 1-6, & the name of the nation. I constructed "scenarios" for WWI, just to get all the ships listed in savefiles. I noticed that the numbers & national names were wrong, for WWI. This was because the numbers assigned to each country were those for WWII. Thus, all RN ships came out as #1, USN; the Germans were #2, RN, etc. I think that only France was the same in both cases. The IJN came out as #7, MIXED.

Further, IIRC, when the ships are chosen randomly, the national # & name seemed to be randomly assigned, so that a Revenge class BB could come out as any of the 6 nations, for the scenario.

I had assumed that, as you say, such things as shell quality, likelihood of mag explosions, etc, would be affected by nation & year, therefore I wonder how the above factor will affect play.

I'm working on spreadsheets to convert WCWWI to WCDB, to alter fleet organizations, & also to generate & mod scenarios the ways I'd like. So I'd like to know what I've got to be careful with.

Hi George, did you switch time frames without exiting the game first?

Thanks.

No, I just created the scenarios. I didn't intend them for play, I just wanted to create save files with, e.g., all OB's in one file. I just saved & exited, & when I looked a the results, that's what I saw (copied from the file):

NATION: UNITED STATES
1
CLASS:
OB LORD NELSON
NAME:
LORD NELSON
DIVISION:
1
NUMBER:
4
CREW RATING:
C
POINT VALUE:
7

NATION: GREAT BRITAIN
2
CLASS:
OB BRAUNSCHWEIG
NAME:
BRAUNSCHWEIG
DIVISION:
1
NUMBER:
5
CREW RATING:
C
POINT VALUE:
6

Ok.. likely its the save code that is writing the wrong nation name place holder, however, it has no effect on game play as the load scenario code reads the nationality number, not the name. You can change the nationality name if you want in the scenario file for referencing purposes.

I will add that to my fix list.

Thanks.
