I can't get the Fighting Steel Scenario Editor to work. Whenever i click on it i get a CTD.
I have the impression that it didn't install properly (got an error message during FSP 10.43 installation procedure but install then finished).
The game itself runs fine on an old XP machine.

Hello,
You may need to install Microsoft's Visual Basic 6.0 runtime files, since that is what the FS scenario editor was coded in and what would be missing during install if it threw an error.
Here is the download link from Microsoft's site to the VB 6.0 user runtime:

I tried that, still doesn't work. Get an "runtime error 401" and "class not registered, looking for object with CLSID" .

Hello,
Try the following:
1) Uninstall FSP/FS and the scenario editor.
2) Delete all FS game folders.
3) Reboot PC.
4) Re-install FS, then install the editor when asked.
5) Install FSP.
6) Reboot PC.
The "401" error message almost always appears in the FS editor when either the Visual Basic installation is corrupted/invalid or the old/new editor databases are mixed together...the above will normally fix that sort of issue. On Step 5 above make certain that you select the correct folder/path to your FS game when running the FSP update as that can cause that same error if you get the folder wrong.

I do not have the FS software at home. I just downloaded the FSP v10.43 Full Install version from this site.
It now seems to install Scenario Editor without a problem (no error messages, but also no specific install prompts for the Editor), but the Editor still doesn't work. Same error messages as before .

Hello,
You must install the original Fighting Steel first, before installing FSP -- FSP does not contain the full set of FS files, only files that were updated with the project. Note the headline on the FSP downloads page:
FSP REQUIRES THE ORIGINAL FIGHTING STEEL GAME
