View Full Version : TAS 2
Am I mistaken but were'nt you guys working on a version of thunder at sea 2? If I am correct whats the latest update and release date? If mis-informed I must apologise (and can :(therefore only look forward to the jutland version of dare I say, distant guns).

TAS v2.0 was cancelled as the designer of TAS could not continue working on the project due to personal reasons. However, SAS has taken up the role as the campaign handler for our upcoming projects and will include coverage of all major WW1 navies in the WW1 edition of the series. SAS is a full naval wargame in itself but it will also be made compatible with NAW and WCDB v2.0. You may want to watch for NAW as well which will cover a full 60 years of naval combat in extreme detail.
Let me know if you have any other questions.
Thanks.

Russ, have you checked out HPS's Jutland game? It may not be as perty as Distant guns will be but it's available right now from the NWS store, and isn't bad at all (and is pretty inexpensive). It may get you through Jutland withdrawls until DG or one of our products comes along!

I would second that vote.. the HPS naval simulations - Jutland, Tsushima, and Guadalcanal can be pretty fun if you like real time naval simulations and their interfaces are very easy to learn.
Click here for more info, HPS Naval Campaigns Series (http://yhst-12000246778232.stores.yahoo.net/navalcampaigns.html)
WCDB, our naval turn based wargame, also covers WW1 and WW2 with 6-7 navies and 400+ ship classes,

Update v2.0 will also include a full tactical mapping system for free download.
Thanks.
Thanks for those replies and suggestions. Don't get me wrong here but I gave up the 2D enviroments of the likes of GNBNA series etc: a long time ago (even though I had many many years of enjoyment with them) for the eye candy of 3D rendered graphics. Fighting Steel was a breath of fresh air to the simulation of surface naval combat even if it was slightly limited on the campaign side. With the addition of FSNA and TAS 2D campaign maps it hugely extended the life of the sim for me. What I would like to know is will NAW be using 3D rendered graphics on say a battle map with SAS or even TAS being utilised as a campaign map ? I know you wont want to give out too much info on your upcoming projects but a little info would be much appreciated.

None of our projects will include "3D" graphics, this is being done on purpose. We would rather spend our time, energy, and resources on creating the highest detailed naval simulations possible with the broadest and most comprehensive coverage then to offer small time slices of naval warfare in lower detail. As a comparison - Navies at War will cover over 1500+ ship classes (1890-1950), rebuilds, and refits on a level of detail never attempted before. Even though we are using a 3D engine for the combat system so as to cover all angles of impact and ship hit locations we are not using the 3D environment as most computers would not handle larger battles with as much detail as the combat mechanics will be modelling -- especially at the higher realism levels.
I hope this helps with your inquiries. Thanks. :)
