View Full Version : 1.7 Updater wont work

When I try to go from 1.0 to 1.7 It crashes halfway through the update stating :

MAIN FILE UPDATING FAILED :OPERATION CANCELED
MAIN FILE DATA INTEGRITY (CRC) ERROR


Does this mean something to somebody?

Hello,

That error message normally means that you have a corrupted installer file, most likely this occured during the download process. Delete the existing update file and try downloading it again.

So you know, I just test-downloaded the v1.7 update and successfully patched my reference WCDB v1.00 with no problems, so almost certainly you have a corrupted file somewhere.

Okay....If I get multiple repeats of the same error message despite new downloads, could the issue be in the main program (1.0) instead?

It seems to work fine for me, but I wonder if there is a small bug somewhere?

How do I go about re-downloading and installing 1.0 without messing up my purchase license and such?

To ctdahlquist,

a) Turn off any AVs or other TSRs you might have running in the background - just to avoid any interference with the downloads or installs.
b) Redownload the DD edition of WCDB again.
c) Install WCDB - make sure it runs for you at v1.0.
d) Download v1.7 and then install it. See if it runs.

Let me know if these steps solve what your having a problem with. I know the DD version is working as I just had a customer buy one and ran it and the v1.7 installer without any problem.

Ehhhh.nuts...I just porked the whole thing.

Deleted and tried to reinstall, but as I feared I screwed my purchase code or something so I cant even reinstall.

Kinda was afraid this was going to happen.

Do you have the installer you downloaded for WCDB? If so, you should be able to just reinstall WCDB again using your serial code that I emailed you.

BTW, where you located?

Yes I still have the downloader....installer...whatever you call it.

Just waiting for the email at the moment then I'll try again.....no biggie.

I finally figured this thing out, so I'll post the solution for anybody else.


Usually I D/L the installer direct to my desktop then run it from there.

This time I clicked on the weblink, and when Explorer asked, instead of hitting save, I hit 'run'.

For some reason this worked fine and now I have complete 1.7 goodness.


Whew......just in time for 2.0 now.

Glad to hear you got it working for you. As a note, I recommend saving the file to a specific folder on your PC. Saving a file to your desktop is not always a great idea as your desktop is meant more for icons and shorcuts - not gaming or application executables.
