Can you download a program that allows you to create those ships, or is it something you have to buy?
If you have to buy it, how much does it cost, what are the system requirments, and where can I get it?

Hey djcyclone
3D Studio Max is probably the best, but its over $3000 dollars to buy it, and you also need 3D Studio Max R3.1 for exporting the .J3D file.
This URL will answer your questions.
http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/index?siteID=123112&id=5659302
There are other graphic program that you can make model's for Fleet Command, main thing you need to make sure the program can do is export to .3ds file type, because that file type can be easily imported into 3DSMax R3.1.

Here is a 3D modelling program that is easy to use and isn't very expensive only $79.95. Check out the URL for more info and the 15 day trial download. :)
http://www.inivis.com/ (http://www.inivis.com/)
If you use this program to make some model's, and you would like them converted to the .J3D file for Fleet Command.
Email me them at ( fleetcommandcc@aol.co.uk (fleetcommandcc@aol.co.uk) ) in any of the following file types AC3D (.ac), 3D Studio (.3ds), VRML 2.0 (.wrl), Wavefront (.Obj), and I will convert the file for you no probs.

You could also try Gmax, it is basic the same has 3D Studio Max 4.0, you just can't export the same file formats, but it is free to download and to use all you need to do is register it on the web site. :)
Here the link.

I here is another one you could try SketchUp 7 & SketchUp Pro 7. Its easy to use, but very different if you have been using 3DSMAX. There are lots of video tutorials which is great and another cool thing is there are lots of model's you can download for free, check it out and see what you think. :):D:)

In regards to paying for these programs if you PM me with your E-Mail or drop me an E-Mail at lacitsagnolabacs@hotmail.com i can give you access to some cheaper options through torrent sites and the like (free). You can always download them from public trackers but i have about 30 invites for a private tracker site so that you can get decent speeds Downloading any applications or movies off them.
Further than that depending on country and state laws it is illegal so i cant really discuss more than ^^ in a public forum. Furthermore in regards to the legality, all the servers are hosted in Swiss banks at present so the lawyers cant get the information to mount a court case, gotta like the irony.

That sounds like more than I want to get involved in.
Anyway, thanks to everyone for the information. I will have to save up some money and get a better computer so I will be able to handle all that stuff.
I only wanted it so I could possibly ajust some of the flight takeoff and landings for FC. I also wanted to take off all the jets that are on the Carriers. It bugs me that they have all those planes on the deck, and in cases like the Kitty Hawk, the Fourth Catapult is blocked by an F18. Jets have to drive right over it in order to get to the cat. That bugs me.
Another thing is the Wasp. All the Trucks are parked right next to the Island, and the Harriers run right over them to get into position.
Last but not least, you cannot give a carrier to another Nation, because it has the jets on it from the original Nation. Kind of kills the realism to the whole thing.

Okay so my Computer specs are on the sticker here.
Intel Core Duo Processor T2300E
1.66 GHz, 667 MHz FSB, 2 MB, L2 Cache
15.4 WXGA LCD
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950
120 GB HDD
DVD stuff
1 GB DDR2
and then some built in Internet stuff that I do not use.
Hope you understand that list, because that is a forign language to me.:D
As for the Carriers. I would love to take off all the aircraft off of every Carrier. That way it is just a plane deck and it can belong to any Nation that I choose to give it too.
Now as for the Landing and Take Off. The Landing is always okay, but the Take Off Could use some work. I would love to see the Wasp use every single Pad Starting with the farthest forward, and then working back. It also bugs me that the harrier seems to go off the elevator and would fall off the ship if where real. So I would want to change the harriers taxi routine so that it just goes straight onto the ship and then goes to the expected zone.
I also would like to remove the trucks on the Wasp since the harrier runs them over on its way to the launch pad. Just stuff like that.
As mentioned before, the Kitty Hawk has the F18 right next to Elevator 4 and Catapult 4. The jets have to run it over in order to get onto the Cat. The jets next to Cat one are also in the way. I always launch an F18 from the Cat since it is the only one that can get by the parked aircraft. That leaves Cat two for every other aircraft, so naturally I have a lot of Cold Cat takeoffs.

No I haven't messed with the File Factory yet, but I have looked at it. I will get too it in time.
I have the money to sign up for it, but just do not have the time, and I am still tinckering with all the little gadgets that the edditor allows.
So the Charles Degal is larger than on Fleet Command?
That seems realistic. I created a mission for myself some time back where I used the the French Nuke Carrier as a Fictional heavily Refit Midway Class. The only aircraft that could realistically fit on the elevator was the Tiger II. Everything else was overlapping the elevator so much that it would (in real life) not have a wing, or flat out fall off the elevator.
Even the French Jets (Rafael) do not fit on that little thing.

I went to the File Factory. The message is always that there is no free models to download right now, so I take it that I would need to sign up for a month or so and then download everything that I want.
I just downloaded animv95 to play around with it a bit. I tried to open up a file for the Fleet Command 3D objects, but it says that it cannot read it.
I suppose I am going to have to go from scratch, so I will have to spend some time with it and find out just what I can and cannot do.

You will need to use the J3D Viewer to open the .J3D files, then you can export the .J3D to
.3ds or an8 to edit them, but its not has easy as it sound. :(

Okay, so here is what I have done so far.
Yesterday I decided to try fooling with FC. I have already deleted the 3D editor, but I can reinstall it if I get the urge to do that again.
Anyway, I downloaded 19.1. I took out all the files for the orginal Game and I placed them on the Desktop. I then went through the process of downloading the game.
Once the game was downloaded, I went and took out the new files and placed them in a Folder that I created named FC II. So now I have acess to them. It took quite a bit of fooling around, and a bit of a headache, but I reinstalled the orginal games.
I then used the editor to open the new files. I found the 3D images, and I experimented by creating the Iowa (of course). I can right click on the name of the image, and then export it to the other 3D file folder. A message will then pop up saying that this folder now has 378 or so files. Then I create the New Ship and give it the new 3D image. This allows me to play with all the new ships, but also allows me to prevent my system from being over loaded with too much information. I will add most of the jets and ships, but I will only use one Harpoon, and I will determine which is the best, and simply modify the one that game already has. The same will apply for the jets. I will simply udate the currant F14, with the best one that you guys used, and then add a jet like the F17 and simply add one, with one type of load out.
I created an Iowa (of course) and it works so far.
I am getting ready to create the weapons for it, and I am using 19.1 Files just as a reference for the complex stuff like measurments and such. Drag Coefficient?
I have no idea what that even is, so I cannot guess what it is on the Ship. So I used 19.1 Files to find the number, and you get the idea. I will ceate the weapons for it, and will again use the 19.1 files to determine where they need to go, the whole Y,X, and the other one that I cannot figure out if my life depended on it.

If you have any BattleShips that you would be willing to give me a copy of, that would be great. I have the Iowa, but the Hood, would be a great addition.
That is all I can think of right now.
Also which one of the AB is the new 3D model of the actual ship. The one with the Mast slanted like it is in real life.
I already know that the Oscar Austin is the AB with the Hangers, so I have that.
Another question, is there any 3D changes in the Spruence Class, for the 1985, 1990, or is it just different weapons? Same for the other ships that had different year models. Is it different 3D immages, or just different Weapon Loadouts.

AB is Arleigh Burk.
And I think the Stack error was because I was using both Iowas at the same time. The Iowa BB* and the Iowa BB.
I wanted to see if one was a 3D model for the original design, with 5 turrets and all, plus no CWIS or Missile boxes.
Both are the same, so I can get rid of the second one.
Also, the Iowa Turrets do not want to move in the direction that the guns are firing. Anything I can do to fix that?

I tried running the Bat File. It rejected it, and this is similar to when I downloaded the 19.1 files.
When it happened the first time, I was trying to download the 19.1 into a folder on my Desktop.
It didn't work, so I realized that I had to download 19.1 directly in the Fleet Command Folder.
So using the previouse knowledge, I drug the Bat file into the FC file, and it tries to run, with no error messages or anything, but it just pops up and then dissapears. The Hood still doesn't work, but kicks me out.
So I need to know where I should put the Bat File before clicking the run button.

Hi djcyclone
Right you need to put the three files below in the Graphics folder.
cmpUtil.exe, HMS_Hood.bat, HMS_Hood.J3D,
( C:\Program Files\Jane's Combat Simulations\Fleet Command\Graphics\ )
Then left click the HMS_Hood.bat file and then click run.
Now you need to add the model to a ship in the data base files.
Example for you.
Look down the left hand side of the 3DObject Records screen you will see a lot of numbers and names.
For example,
0001. 53 cm Torpedo
0002. 65 cm Torpedo
0003. A 244 Torpedo
Next look for a ship record, for example the first ship you should see is a Abukuma FFG (I think) doulbe click on it.
Next look at the right side of the 3DObject Records screen you will see
Low Detail Model: ship_L_sm.j3d
Med Detail Model: abukuma_m.j3d
High Detail Model: abukuma.j3d
Change the above to like this below,
Low Detail Model: Hms_Hood.J3D
Med Detail Model: Hms_Hood.J3D
High Detail Model: Hms_Hood.J3D
also change the ( No. Animated Parts: ) to 0, then click Save Record.
Next click the X at the top on the right hand side of the screen and again on the Fleet Command Database Editor, a screen will popup click yes to save.
I hope this help you get the Hms Hood working. :)

I tried to double click on the ships icons in the 3D box. Nothing happened.
I also moved all of the files to the Graphics folder, but I had to move the other cmputil file into the Hood Folder, because the Computer would not allow them both to be in the same folder.
I then clicked on the Hood Bat, but it did the same thing. Just popped up the wait menu, but it is only a flash of that menu. It will not load the way it is supposed too.
I will try it again to see if it works, but doubtfull.

Are you still using Fleet Command on Vista?
Have you turn off the UAC, in the User Account's setting?

Do you know how to use Command Prompt, if you do try this.
To add the HMS Hood to Fleet Command by using Command Prompt.
Put the HMS_Hood.J3D, into the Graphics folder.
C:\Program Files\Jane's Combat Simulations\Fleet Command\Graphics
Then open Command Prompt. (All Programs\Accessories\Command Prompt)
then type
cd\
or
CD\
then press Enter
then type
cd prog*\Jane's Combat Simulations\Fleet Command\Graphics
then press Enter.
This line will popup ( C:\Program Files\Jane's Combat Simulations\Fleet Command\Graphics> )
then type
cmputil.exe 3D HMS_Hood.J3D
then press Enter.
This line below will popup
( Opening...Compressing...Sorting...Done! D:\Program Files\Jane's Combat Simulations\fleet command\Graphics> )
If you still have problems let me know.

This is torcher.
I went through all the steps, and got all the way to the end. Then It said Debug Assertion Failes, and asked me if I wanted to Abort, Retry, or Ignore.
In the past whenever I have ever clicked Ignore, it just pops up again and so it just repeating itself. The same goes for Retry.
The only button that works is Abort. I give up.

Hey djcyclone
Have you give up on this?
For now. I will pick up on it in a couple of days. I have a lot of stuff going on right now, and Fleet Command kind of burnt out, so I decided to take a break.
Maybe this weekend, I will pick up on it.
