View Full Version : Another Stupid Question

So I am trying to update Fleet Command, and I have found the Fleet Command editor.
I downloaded it a long time ago, when I was having trouble with the 19.0 extension. I have since given up on that, and went back to the original version. I deleted the editor and gave up on the idea all together.
Now I have reinstalled it, but when I try to bring up the ship list, I get the list from the 19.0 version. I no longer have the 19.0 version, so I cannot adjust anything.
Is there anyway to clean my computer of all 19.0 memory?

Its not a stupid question a tall, if you don't know what you have done.
When you uninstall Fleet command did you uninstall NWP19.0 first?
What OS are you using Xp, Vista, Window 7?
Did you delete the fleet command folder?
If you didn't uninstall fleet command again delete anything to do with FC.
Example of versions,
Local Dick (C) \Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\fleet command
OR
Local Dick C:\Program Files\Sonalysts Combat Simulations\fleet command
OR
Local Dick C:\Program Files\Jane's Combat Simulations\fleet command
then re-install Fleet Command and the game should work fine, I hope this help. :)

Well I am using Vista.
When I reinstalled FC I erased all of the 19.0 files. I just got done playing FC and it works fine, and has been working fine for some time.
The problem is the FC Editor. When I open it up, it still shows all the additional units that 19.0 has. I cannot adjust anything, because it is not opening up the list of the original FC.
I do not know where the files are, so I am stumped.
I will look into the files that you mentioned, and see if I can find anything that relates to 19.0.
Thanks

Thanks for the info.
Where have your got the dbeditor?
Just a little note have you check the, db folder in the Compatibility Files folder, and not the one in the main Fleet Command folder, Vista doesn't let the game read from that one, went they have been edited.
Click on Start then Computer
Local Disc C:\Program Files\Sonalysts Combat Simulations\fleet command\
then click on Compatibility Files and delete any in there to, that might be your problem.

I already deleted the game. I am just going to install the new 19.1 to see if I can get any better results than with 19.0. When I say delete, I mean I deleted all the Doctrines, Scenario's, and Database, just like the main menu tells you to do.
I went to the download area, and I clicked on the icon. A screen comes up that says open, or save. Which should I choose?
When I click open, it pops up with the install screen and instal wizard starts walking me through the prompts, but then it ask where I want to put the file. I cannot find the fleet command file, so I am clueless as to where to put it.
The same applies for when I click the save button. I do not know where to put the file, and I cannot find the Fleet Command File on the list that it gives me to select from.

Right thanks so you need to till the NWP19.01 installer, to go to this directory.
Local Dick C:\Program Files\Jane's Combat Simulations\fleet command
I think that's what it is, but I'm not to sure. You will need to check.
The Stream and Naval Combat Pack start screen, look like the attached screen print, the Jane's version is different to this one.

So if I save the file to the Desk Top, how to I get it into the Fleet Command File?
Do I just drag it over to the file? Will it work with the game as long as it is in the file?

Right so you've got the NWP_v19.01.exe on the desktop, left double on the NWP_v19.01.exe file a screen will popup,
Then left click run,
Then left click Next,
Check I agree to the T&C
Then left click Next.
Then till the installer where Fleet Command is install.

You are a life saver. It was the compatability files that was holding me up.
I recently (a couple of months ago) found out how to change aircraft on all the ships, but I never could change the weapons on ships, or aircraft.
Now I can do anything I want. Hehehehehehehehe.
I want to give the Ohio Class the ability to launch TLAM's, but the only sub launch that I can think of is the LA Improved. The problem with this is that it will launch from the front, instead of the rear. Maybe I can use a TICO rear VLS to get the job done. I will have to see how that works.
Anyway thinks again. I will look into doing the 19.1 later.

It normally runs okay. Sometimes it does what I like to call hopping. This where you can see that the game is struggling to do all the things that are going on at once.
Occasionaly if I start going to fast, it will crash. That only happens every now and then, so I would give it a 7 or 8 out of 10.

Okay, so it seems I spoke too soon.
I opened up the editor and I just wanted to make some simple changes. I found the AB Class, and I opened up weapons. Now I noticed the CIWS or Cannon as one of the weapons. One of the things that has always bothered me is that the CWIS cannot be used to fire on surface targets. So I found the Amunition which is Defensive Bullet and I gave it the ability to be fired at Surface targets.
Then I went and tried to change the weapon load out on the LA and LAI class submarines. I added a few Harpoons, and subtracted Torpedoes to accomidate. All of this was done to the LATTP and LATTS.
I then went and double clicked on the Aft VLS of the TICO. Now I saved the file under a different name OHIO VLS. I then went to the OHIO VLS and double clicked on it. It was still the same as the TICO only a different name. I removed all weapons, and changed the number of bays to 24. I then loaded 12 and 12 TLAM & TASM.
I then went to the Ohio under Objects, and added the OHIO VLS to the weapons loadout. I also went and checked the Spruence, and I gave the Spruence SM2's and then removed some of the TLAM and TASM.
I saved all the records, and I opened the game up. I went to Mission editor and set up a dummy mission where I could test all the new things. Guess What???????
NOTHING CHANGED. I even put a Kirov CGN next to my Spruence, and labled it Neutral so it would not fire at me. Then I tried to get the CWIS to fire at it, and same message. Not a valid target.
The Ohio had no different weapons, and the LA and LAI had the same loadout.
Spruence was unchanged also. Absolutly nothing changed.
Why does this crap have to be so Hard???????????????????????????????????

I can't tell you whats going wrong with the db editing, because Mike D and Warship NWS don't allow discussion about database editing. The NWP database is copyrighted, so modification of the db is an infraction of the ELUA and NWP copyright. So I can't help you with that part sorry about that, but if your just modding the original Jane's Data Base I can help you with that on the forum above.
I can tell you that the problem is must likely to be with the Vista and the Compatibility Files.

I loaded the 19.1 version yesterday evening, and so far it has worked. The SM1 works, and I looked at the Editor just to make sure that the proper sensors have been loaded.
That was the problem with 19.0. The missles and torpedoes had no sensors, so torpedoes would go active and would just do circles around the sub. Missles would just pass by the target.
So far everything is okay with 19.1, and I have no intention of edtiting that.
I did however keep the old files of the original Fleet Command (in my Recycle Bin). I am wondering, if I made another folder and moved them into it, and then switched the files for Scenario, Database, and Doctine, would the game allow me to play the original?
Would I be able to switch back and forth, or would the game still recognize the 19.1 version, even when I was trying for the original?

I'd be happy just to have the original now. It turns out that the 19.1 did not work. I got to looking at things closer, and the Harpoons are once again listed as Air to Air missles, and are also thrown weapons (A.K.A. dumb bombs)
They fly right towards the target, and almost hit just by running the same course, but they never do change from engage to attack. They just fly right on by.
I do not have 3 years to go through the edditor and correct everything, as I do not even know what some weapons are supposed to have.
Wouldn't it figure. I erased the 19.1, and of course I erased the original files, so I have nothing. Therefore I deleted the entire game, and attempted to reload it.
Now the dam computer will not install it. I even tried a system restore, and it keeps telling me that an unexpected error occured and system could not be restored.
I have no idea what to do now.

Just as I pushed submit on that last reply, the game finally decided to install. So now I have the original version, and I am going to full around and see if I can change some things with the editor.
Just a question however. Is there anyway I can add some of the models myself?
The reason I ask that, is your version is over kill for my system, and it cannot handle the download. Plus I do not want 4 different types of harpoon's, or 4 different types of F117's. I just want the extra ships, and aircraft, and I will use the original weapons, with maybe a few add on's like the ASROC.
I wouldn't mind adding a few ships, and then just adding the weapons myself, using weapons that are pretty much already on the original game.

Okay great. Thanks for the help.
I have great news. I started messing around with the original Fleet Command yesterday, and it works great. I added SM2's to the Spruence, and changed all the load outs for the LA subs.
Finally I can have fun with that game. I also gave the Ohio Class a VlS launcher and gave it Tomahawk missiles. I was even able to get the CIWS to fire at a surface target. It finally works.
I will look into the adding of ships later on. Right now I am having way too much fun playing with all the different weapons.
I intend to give all SAM's the range of an SM1. For countries like Russia that have multiple SAM's, I will give their smallest one the range of an SM1, and their largest one the range of an SM2. I am also going to create a Land attack missile for the Russian fleet using the model for the Chinese C01 Missile.
Finally, other Navies will be able to stand toe to toe with the US fleet. May the better player win. Heheheheheh

More good news. I just applied for a loan so I can buy a new computer.
My laptop still works, but it is really getting slow, so I think it might be ready to crash on me.
Last weekend I found a local computer store that will build computers. I intend to take in the case for Silent Hunter IV, and have them build a computer that is capable of playing that game with ease. As complex as that game is, I figure if a computer can play it, then it can play anything else that I have.
This new computer will also be a desktop, and I will buy a 40" TV and use that as my monitor.
With the new computer, I will hopefully be able to download your 19.1, and have it work properly.
I just do not want to go and do all the work that you guys have already done, and that is what I have to do on my Laptop. I have to go and correct all the settings for the weapons, since Harpoons and other anti surface weapons are labled as Air to Air Missiles.
Oh, and this new computer will have XP, not Vista. I swear, the person who created Vista needs to be drug out in the street and shot.

Okay, so here is what I am struggling with. I would like to create my first ASROC missle. The 3D model is easy, I can just use one of the other missles.
I know that I can add a torpedoe to the missile, under weapons column. The thing is, how do I get the missile to be able to fire at a blank spot on the map, or how do I get the missle to detonate before it hits the target.. Also how do I tell the missle to release the torpedo at a certain time?
Having the weapon be able to free launch without a target will really help, because I want to make mines able to be dropped whenever I want. It is kind of rediculouse to have to have a target, being that the target will be shooting at you if you are trying to drop a mine in front of them at the range that is given.
I guess I could set the range of the mine to be equal to that of a Tomahawk Land Attack Missile. I guess that would allow me to drop it at a safe distance and then get out of there.

You can't do this, the game won't let you do it, has far has I know.
or how do I get the missle to detonate before it hits the target.. Also how do I tell the missle to release the torpedo at a certain time?
You might be able to write a doctrine file to do this, but I wouldn't recommend it, because these files never seem to do what you what them to do.

Okay so here is another question. Is it possible to download the 19.1 version. Then take all Scenario, Database, and Doctorine out and put them in a different folder.
Now take the old version of Fleet Command, the Scenario,Database, and Doctorine and replace them.
Then take the 3D models from 19.1 and use them on the original game. Now the way I see it, nothing will change. The game will still be original, "BUT" I will be able to go and creat units like the Iowa and the Tiger, and the F117 and then give them the 3D model that is already in the File.
I would have to make up weapons for them, like give the Iowa the same guns as a Tico, only increase the Damage done by 3 times, plus make them slower to fire, and harder to reload.
So is this possible, or am I getting in over my head?

So I have another dangerous idea.
I have been looking at the Doctorine section of the Fleet Command. I noticed that every Torpedo has just Torpedo Doctorine.
Then I remembered that I have Dangerouse Waters, and that game has Asroc Torpedos. So I have got the idea to copy the Doctorine for DW, and add it too FC.
Then I can create an additional Missile using a 3D object for whatever missile I choose, probably a Tomahawk, and then adding a torpedo too it.
Then I can write the Doctorine into the File, and see if I can fire it.
Scarry I know, but it is worth a try. What do you guys think?

I will definetly have to compare it to Doctorine Files from Fleet Command. That way I can see what goes where, and if I need to add or delete some things from the new Doctorine.
The files are opening up in English with Microsoft Excel. If they where in computer code, then I would not be able to do anything, but since they are readable, I can compare them and see what needs added.
I probably will not do it until this weekend so I can have plenty of time to fool with it.
Whats the worse that can happen? I just might not work, and I will delete the new weapon, plus the doctorine, and give up.

Okay so I am back at it. I created my first ship today, and that was simply the Taiwan O.H.P. Class. I like the missile launchers on the top, so I gave that 3D to the United States, and created another missile launcher. I also went and found a list of all Perry Class ships, their names, and their numbers. I increased the US Perry count to 51 and went and renamed them all.
A question I do have, but I suspect that you guys never figured it out either. I say that, because I played the 1949 for the 19.1 version, and I noticed the same thing in that.
The Collosus Aircraft Carrier is driving me nuts. Planes cannot launch when they are sideways.
There has to be a way to turn that aircraft so that it is facing the front of the ship.
