Brian, I think you will find in time that these forums are nothing like many others you may have been on. While we do tend to be a bit blunt at times in are debates, rarely if ever will you find any hard feelings just because someone thinks you're wrong!
Chris is wrong all the time for example - we still like him :p
So don't get discouraged. If it seems like you've gotten a bit of a rebuke don't let it get you down. Stick around and jump in - the water is often quite warm, but never flaming hot.

Now you know why Kyle is considered our resident smarty pants and PITA (pain in the ass). ;) He especially hates to admit anytime I am right about anything.. the old, gotta beat up on the boss thing I guess. ;)
As he said though.. we get passionate but never personal with our debates. My motto is simple.. it is not about being in a competition of knowledge, rather it is a sharing of knowledge.
Thanks.

Hi Brian:
Welcome aboard. The limits of written communication can make a person's opinion seem harsher than they normally would be if you were talking on the phone or face to face. Actually it was a learning experience about aircraft engines for myself.

Actually most of the heated debates here are on opinion - not facts. Facts like how much a Hellcat weighs or the armor thickness of the Yamato belt. Any facts like these that we get incorrect will often be quickly corrected by someone.
When it comes to subjective things - like how good the ME-262 is or what would happen if Midway were invaded in 1941 - here's where there really is no right or wrong as it's opinion or conjecture.
I often disagree with Chris' opinions as he does with mine. Then again lots of people here disagree - which is what makes these forums fun and informative - as people provide new information to support their arguements/views. We all learn.

I talked to bridav58, David, on the phone last night.. very pleasant person to chat with. I think he will enjoy himself quite a bit on our forums.
As to opinions.. that is part of it, most of warfare is also based on theory and personal individual perspectives of the facts made available. In all actuallity... not even facts are always 100% correct. There are no absolutes in warfare, except that men and machines die, all else is educated estimates and theory.
Thanks.

Hi Brian
I spend my life apologising on the forum, OR, if I'm quick enough, I remove my last post before anyone gets to see it. I have no idea what your discussion was about. I tend to go all wobbly when it's an issue of history or current affairs. People are right about the forum though. It's one of the few wargaming/sim forums on the web where people won't wind you up for the sake of it, and don't get too fed up if you go overboard sometimes. As a result, I find this forum not only a pleasure to visit, but also, almost stress-free, and you can't say that of many. Chris has, thankfully, fairly strict rules about what are permissible subjects for discussion, and it works a treat. I have been hauled up on it once or twice, but that's fine too.
Cheers
Martin :)

Not to worry, you are the soul of English politeness. Having been on other forums and experienced badly moderated discussions, I give Chris credit for erring on the side of caution. Is it true as John Cleese says that Britons live in total fear of embarassment?

Ed,
Sorry to jump in, but as a fellow Brit, I can say that certainly that was true of John Cleese's generation ( and therefore mine, as I am over 50 as well ), not so sure it applies so rigidly nowadays.
Jon:)
