In the Med campaign I have been trying to initiate fighter/bomber sweeps from Malta to Palermo for example. According to the A/C stats, both Marlets and Sea Hurricanes can carry small bomb loads. Yet these strikes never happen. I have also been trying to station some bombers at Malta but it is not allowed. Can this be changed? Historically,Wellingtons were used to attack Italian ports from Malta.

buffedub - the reason why your strikes vs Palermo are not proceeding is probably because of a rule that the AI uses when attacking land targets. The strike will not proceed if sufficient fighter escort cannot be found. What is sufficient is based on an assessment of enemy fighter defences. This rule does NOT apply to attacks on fleets at sea. The rationale is that fleets at sea are always worthwhile targets.
I am thinking about adding a toggle to allow players to override the rule for strikes on land targets, and also to enable the rule for strikes on fleets at sea - in other words, leave it to the player to decuide what level of risk to accept. This is a simplish change and I want to add this soonish.

Thanks for you reply. I think the toggle you suggest would be a valuable addition. I'm am still concerned that I cannot base bomber type a/c like Bleheims, Beauforts, Wellingtons, etc at Malta. Is this a design decision or a supposed runway length restriction? As I mentioned earlier Wellingtons were indeed based at Malta historically.

Buff,
It's a function of the infrastucture level of the port/airfield. If you go to the Build Infrastructure screen and look up Malta you'll probably see that the level of the airfield is not sufficient to support the bombers you want to base there.
For the Med1 scenario, I suspect the infrastructure level Tony gave Malta was a function of game balance; the only option you probably have it to increase the infrastructure through investment. If you were to design your own Med scenario, you can have Malta start with whatever infrastructure level you desire.
You could probably even make it your home port, if you were so inclinded....

Also - Malta tends to bet bombed pretty heavoily and its infrastructure, including airfield infrastructure tends to get degraded. As the UK player, you can help maintain and develop Malta as an effective airfield by spending RPs on airfield infrastructure.
